Harare, (New Ziana) – In a significant boost to the justice delivery system, 15 new magistrates were sworn in at the Harare Magistrates Court on Monday.
The move is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the backlog of cases plaguing the courts, ensuring that justice is delivered more efficiently and promptly.
Speaking during the swearing in ceremony, Chief Magistrate Vongai Guwuriro emphasized the importance of the new magistrates in improving access to justice, particularly in regions suffering from an overwhelming number of cases and limited staffing.
“Your appointment comes at a critical time when our courts need additional support to handle the increasing caseload. Together, we can create a more responsive and accessible judicial system for all citizens,” she said.
Guwuriro urged the new magistrates to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
“Corruption has no place in our judiciary. You are expected to act with the utmost fairness and impartiality in all your work on a daily basis,” she said, reminding them that their conduct would significantly impact the public perception of the Judicial Service Commission.
The magistrates were also encouraged to engage with their communities, fostering a trust-based relationship that would enhance public confidence in the justice system.
“Remember, justice is not just about the law, it is about the people. Strive to be approachable and understanding in your roles,” Guwuriro added.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judicial framework in the country, paving the way for a more efficient and equitable justice delivery system.
The new magistrates are expected to make a meaningful impact, ensuring that citizenss cases are heard without undue delay.
