Suspected Neshuro drug dealer arrested
Mwenezi (Masvingo Star–New Ziana)-Police in Mwenezi have arrested a suspected drug dealer who was found with a load of Broncleer bottles (commonly known as Bronco) and 4 kilograms of marijuana (mbanje).
Mwenezi is about 169 kilometres south of Masvingo.
Innocent Muchongwe, (28), of Neshuro Growth Point in Mwenezi was arrested last Thursday as he arrived at the business centre from Beitbridge where he is suspected to have procured the broncleer worth 3 800 Rand and mbanje.
He was picked up as he made his way to his suspected drug den.
Muchongwe’s luck ran out soon after disembarking from a cross border bus at Turn Pee near Rutenga Business Centre where the road to Neshuro Growth Point branches off from the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway to catch taxis to his base.
Two police officers from Ngundu Police Station spotted Muchongwe and became suspicious of the heavily loaded satchel which he was carrying on his back.
The police officers asked to search him but he refused and quickly jumped into a waiting taxi, which sped off towards Neshuro Growth Point.
This heightening the officers’ suspicions and they followed in another taxi.
On reaching Neshuro Growth Point, Muchongwe allegedly asked the taxi driver to drop him off at his premises where he gave the satchel to his young brother, Enock Muchongwe and ordered him to hide it.
Unknown to him, all his movements were being monitored by the police officers who had also arrived at the growth point.
The police officers then confronted Enock who in fear spilled the beans about his brother’s thriving drug dealing business which he had started in February this year.
The police officers then waited for Muchongwe to come back and arrested him.
All the drugs were recovered and Muchongwe was due to appear in court this week.
Broncleer is a South African made cough remedy which is abused by mostly young people and touts to get “high”, and is smuggled into the country via different ports of entry.
