Fastjet says ready for Byo, Joburg flight launch
Harare,(New Ziana) – Low cost carrier, Fastjet Zimbabwe said on Friday it is ready to launch its inaugural flight from the country’s second largest city, Bulawayo to Johannesburg, South Africa commencing on December 5 this year.
The airline will have 22 flights linking the two cities per week, including double daily frequencies from Monday to Friday.
Fastjet Zimbabwe, chief executive officer Joao Sousa said the airline had received tremendous stakeholder backing ahead of the launch.
“Since the announcement of the new route, we have been overwhelmed with positive sentiment and backing from a wide spectrum of local and
international supporters and business leaders, appreciating the economic and social benefits the new route will pave for everyone,” he
He added, “The City of Kings (Bulawayo) has the potential and capacity to be one of the fastest-growing cities in sub-Saharan Africa, and Fastjet
Zimbabwe is honoured to be associated with the positive outlook.”
Over a week ago, South African government owned airline SA Express launched its flights on the same route.
Reports however suggest that the going has not been smooth for the airline so far.
