Zvishavane man kills sister, nephew
Zvishavane (The Times-New Ziana) – A 31 year old Zvishavane man went berserk and allegedly killed his sister and her son recently by stabbing them with a sharp object after she had refused to give him his bank cards.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspect Joel Goko confirmed the horrific incident.
The suspect, Newton Hove of Village Madhiye under Chief Mazvihwa in Zvishavane, is alleged to have killed his sister Blessed Hove (34) and her son Tanaka Kufa (5) on 8 January 2020 around 1900hours after his sister had refused to hand over his bank cards.
Newton, who is said to be mentally challenged, asked his sister about his finances which he felt that she was not managing properly.
“Newton demanded his bank cards from Blessed and she refused to hand over the bank cards and this angered him. He suddenly got up, armed himself with an unknown object and stabbed her sister all over the body.
“He further went on to stab his nephew all over the body with the same object and he fled away,” said Insp Goko.
A neighbor heard cries for help from the victims and rushed to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival he saw the victims lying in pools of blood with serious injuries. The neighbor then alerted the villagers.
A report was made at ZRP Zvishavane and Newton was arrested and is assisting police with investigations, and is expected to appear in court soon.
Insp Goko appealed to members of the community to constantly supervise their relatives who may be suffering from mental conditions.
“The police are appealing to members of the community to constantly supervise their relatives who may be suffering from mental conditions by ensuring that they take medication or report such cases where there is suspicion towards mental instability to authorities.
“Use of violence constitutes an offence and lead to unnecessary loss of lives and they should also respect sanctity of life,” he said.
