Zim Covid-19 cases rise to 56
Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe on Friday recorded 5 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country’s total confirmed infections to 56, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
The new Covid-19 cases came out of 405 tests conducted countrywide on Friday.
In a daily update, the Ministry said one of the new cases was a male returnee from Botswana who is currently in isolation in Gweru.
“The others are three Malawian illegal immigrants who were intercepted by security authorities and are in isolation in Beitbridge while awaiting deportation to Malawi and one female from Harare,” it said.
“To date the total number of confirmed cases is 56: recovered 18, active cases 34 and 4 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.”
Zimbabwe is on Level 2 lockdown for an indefinite period and authorities have been credited for putting in place effective measures to contain the deadly pandemic which has infected over 5 million people, killing 328 000 worldwide.
