ANC delegation to meet Zanu PF only – Chinamasa

Harare, (New Ziana) – Zanu PF said on Tuesday a top delegation from the governing African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa will only meet its Zimbabwean counterpart, contrary to local opposition hopes the fact-finding mission will also include consultations with them,

The visit by the six-member ANC delegation, led by its Secretary General, Ace Magashule , is on a fact finding mission following recent frenzied social media reports of a political crisis in the country.

The reports prompted South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa to send envoys to Harare last month to assess the situation.

The visit by the ANC delegation is a follow up to that earlier vist by the special envoys.

Government has dismissed the social media reports of a political crisis in the country, which are mainly being pushed by the country’s main opposition in cahoots with western embassies.

Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said delegations from the two parties will meet on Wednesday.

“The ANC delegation will meet with the Zanu PF delegation led by the Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu as part of party to party engagements,” Chinamasa said.

“Zanu PF wishes to make it categorically clear that this is a meeting between the Zanu PF and the ANC delegation only.”

He added,” We are also aware that this visit is taking place against the backdrop of false claims on a nation in crisis. Zanu PF will take the opportunity to share the reality on the ground in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the region candidly and frankly with their revolutionary sister the ANC.”

Opposition and other stakeholders in Zimbabwe, who are alleging that there is a crisis in the country, were also hoping to meet with the South African delegation.

The hopes had been fuelled by President Ramaphosa, who in a speech before dispatching the delegation, had hinted on the possibly of them meeting with other stakeholders in Zimbabwe.

But the official letter written by the ANC to Zanu PF only requested for a “bilateral meeting.”
