New CAPS board appointed
Harare (New Ziana) –Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza on Monday announced a five member board for state owned pharmaceutical firm, CAPS as the government forges ahead with plans to turn around the fortunes of the company.
Pharmaceutical quality assurance specialist Ian Matondo will chair the new board, whose other members include Tapiwa Mashingaidze, Sinikiwe Gwatidzo, Arthur Manase and Bothwell Nyajeka.
Their appointment, which was approved by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was in line with the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31] and is effective November 4, 2020.
“The Minister is focused on best practice and good corporate governance, transparency and accountability in decision making and has therefore included a diversity of skills to contribute to the strategic direction of CAPS (Pvt) Ltd into a formidable player in the pharmaceutical sector,” Dr Nzenza said.
She said Matondo was also a pharmaceutical and laboratory reagents supply chain specialist, with over 20 years of experience.
“He is currently the principal consultant at APOLLO-AFROASIA Health in Zimbabwe, and managing director of Pracon Enterprises, South Africa since 2016, consulting in, pharmaceutical supply chain management, pharmaceutical quality assurance, health technologies transfer and systems strengthening in the health sector, in sub-Saharan Africa. This is mainly through technical cooperation with Indian health institutions and the World Health Organization. Mr Matondo holds a MSc degree in Analytical Biochemistry and a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Biology.”
Dr Nzenza said the other board members also possessed various skills which would be harnessed to the benefit of CAPS.
She said Nyajeka was currently the Chief Executive Officer for Sable Chemical Industries, while Manase, a renowned lawyer, was expected to bring his wealth of experience in the legal field.
“Mr T Mashingaidze, an appointee to the Board is an expert in chemical engineering for over 20 years. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Chemplex Corporation Limited. He previously served as the General Manager for ZimPhos Limited, Dorowa Minerals Limited and Chemplex Animal and Public Health (CAPH). Mr Mashingaidze holds B.Sc. Chemical Engineering, C.Eng. (Chartered Engineering) and Master of Business Administration.
“The Minister is confident that the board members’ expertise and experience will be useful for the resuscitation of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry,” she said.
