Chin’ono granted bail
Harare (New Ziana)- The High Court on Friday granted journalist-cum political activist Hopewell Chin’ono bail in a matter in which he is facing obstruction of justice charges.
The activist was denied bail by the Harare Magistrate Court which felt he had a propensity to commit crimes since he allegedly flouted bail conditions for his other matter pending at the courts.
He went on to appeal against the denial of bail at the High Court.
In granting him bail, Justice Tawanda Chitapi said the magistrate of the lower court grossly misdirected herself.
As part of his bail conditions, Chin’ono was ordered not to use his personal micro-blogging Twitter account to disseminate information that obstructs the course of justice.
In the pending case, Chin’ono is facing charges of allegedly inciting public violence for mobilizing masses through his social media accounts to protest against government in a failed demonstration which had been slated for July 31st.
