Marondera (Chaminuka News-New Ziana) – At least 80 people have applied for the post of town clerk of Marondera which falls vacant in February next year when incumbent Josiah Musuwo retires.
But only 10 or 12 candidates will be shortlisted for interviews on a date yet to be confirmed.
Kunze Consultancy, which assisted in carrying out similar recruitment for Bindura, Mutare and Ruwa councils, is helping the Marondera Municipality filling the post.
Marondera mayor, Chengetai Murowa confirmed the development, and said the local authority will assess all applications for the post without fear or favour.
“It is true that we are in the process of recruiting a new town chief executive as Musuwo will be leaving council early next year after serving for many years. He should have left in February this year but we requested that he extends his contract as we felt there were issues that needed to be resolved before he leaves us,” he said.
“We did the long listing of all those who applied, whether they met the requirements or not. There were representatives from the Ministry of Local Government, residents’ associations as well as councillors when we sat down for this exercise. Very soon, we will be shortlisting those who would have made it and interviews will follow thereafter,” Murowa said.
There are reports that the municipality’s two senior managers, chamber secretary Rinashe Nyamuzihwa and finance director John Kachingwe, are among those who have shown an interest in the job.
Murowa said no special consideration will be given to the background of the person who will clinch the post, other than that he or she was qualified for the job and competent.
He said: “As council, what we want is a competent person who will deliver the goods. We are looking for someone who will spearhead development and efficient service delivery in this provincial capital.
We won’t be concerned about where one will be coming from as long as they are capable and have the necessary qualifications.”
