Mbire (New Ziana) – A bright boy from rural Mbire, Mashonaland Central Province, who performed brilliantly in his ‘A’ Level examinations despite the odds, is appealing for a scholarship to go to university.

Lewis Wadyandiani obtained 19 points in computer science, statistics, geography, mathematics, economics and business studies at ‘A’ Level at Mahuwe High School, and wishes to study computer science at university, but cannot afford tuition and other fees required.

He is an orphan, and his education so far had been financed by the government’s Basic Education Module scheme.

“I was appealing to anyone who can assist to help me out. Everyday l am watching day in and day out as my dream fades away because l cannot sponsor myself,” a distraught Wadyandiani said.

The school’s headmaster, Obert Tembo, said the boy was so brilliant and resourceful that he was so confident he would succeed in whatever studies he can pursue at university.

In ‘O’ Level examinations, Lewis obtained a string of A grades including in physics which was not offered at his school, but which he studied through own research.

“Wadyandiani was a bright and disciplined student. He participated in debates and he was once a provincial champion in chess and I hope the government will provide a scholarship for him to study at any university he wishes to,” Tembo said.
