Bulawayo (New Ziana) —The Local Government Board has extended by one year, the employment contract for Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube after the initial four-year term had expired on September 30.
“The City of Bulawayo has received communication from the Local Government Board acceding to the council’s request to extend the Town Clerk’s contract by one more year, effective October 1, 2024,” Coltart stated.
The mayor also confirmed that the city would soon begin recruiting a successor in line with its succession planning practices, in accordance with local governance laws.
Prior to the development, chamber secretary Sikhangele Zhou was appointed to act as Town Clerk in the interim.
Dube, who was appointed Town Clerk in 2016, has an extensive background in public administration having previously served as Town Clerk for Victoria Falls.
He also held various senior roles, including director of Finance at the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.
Dube also served in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) for 17 years as an accountant, retiring with the rank of major.
