Harare, (New Ziana) – The trial of businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu on corruption charges involving more than US$7 million has been postponed to October 22 this year.
The two are accused of misappropriating funds totaling US$7.7 million from the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme.
Allegations are that Chimombe and Mpofu forged a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) tax clearance certificate and a National Social Security Authority (NSSA) compliance certificate in the name of Blackdeck Private Limited.
They attached these to a bidding document which they submitted to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development for a tender to supply and deliver goats for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.
The two, who are in remand prison, thus misrepresented that their company was in full compliance with ZIMRA and NSSA requirements.
