Harare (New Ziana) – A 51-year-old Chinese national has been arraigned before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on allegations of rape.

According to the state’s case, the accused individual worked alongside the 17-year-old complainant at a mine in Gweru. On November 15, 2022, the accused allegedly raped the complainant in his office. As a result, the complainant became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl the following year.

After the complainant reported the incident to her mother, a police report was filed on June 13, 2024, leading to the arrest of the accused. The case has been remanded to June 28.

In an unrelated rape case, a 42-year-old man from Chief Gambiza area of Gweru was recently brought before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on charges of raping a woman

According to the details of the case, on the evening of June 7th, 2024, the accused individual allegedly gained entry into the victim’s bedroom, where she was asleep with her 2-year-old child. Despite her vulnerable situation, the victim courageously fought back and was able to identify the perpetrator, who then pleaded for forgiveness and fled the scene.

Upon her husband’s return home around midnight, the victim immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.

The accused individual has been remanded in custody and is awaiting trial on a date yet to be set.
