Chirumhanzu(The Times-New Ziana) -Member of Parliament (MP) for Chirumhanzu constituency in the Midlands province, Barbra Rwodzi of the ruling Zanu PF has secured a credit line to purchase small grain seeds and fertilizer for distribution to communal farmers in 10 wards in the constituency.

Rwodzi said they got a line of credit from the Women’s Bank for seeds to distribute to people across the constituency.

“It was a busy weekend since Friday morning as we went to the constituency with Women’s Bank to distribute Sunflower seeds and fertilizer to our communal farmers in 10 wards across the constituency,” she said.

“As the MP’s office, we negotiated a credit line with Women’s Bank for Sunflower seeds and fertilizer, and the market to offload the end product for some of our communal farmers,” she added.

She said sunflower was one of the small grains which thrived in the harsh climate experienced in Chirumhanzu.

Rwodzi said they were embarking on a program for drought tolerant grains in line with the government goal for food security.

“We have embarked on a program for drought resistant grain farming in line with the Government’s goals for food security for all and we shall work together with the farmers to make the best out of this opportunity,” she said.
