MARONDERA– Gamanya clinic in Chikomba district’s Ward 2 that is expected to meet the health needs of at least 10 people has opened its doors to the community.

Devolution funds were used to build the clinic which has cut walking distances for those in need of health care services by more than 10km, a move applauded by the community, especially the  elderly  who praised the Second Republic for leaving no one and no place behind.

The clinic was officially opened by the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Dr Aplonia Munzverengwi who said it was the Government’s commitment to ensure that the country’s health sector is improved by bringing the critical service closer to the people.

“Gamanya clinic is a product of hard work and collaboration. The local authority, that is Chikomba Rural District Council (CRDC), worked closely with members of the community to ensure that it is established. That should be commended as Ward 2 residents who used to walk for long distances to the next clinic no longer have to worry about that. The rural council channeled part of its devolution funds towards the construction of this clinic. Citizens’ livelihoods will indeed be transformed,” the Minister said.

She said the opening of the clinic was a true testimony to the fact that the Second Republic was committed to providing primary health care to people at all times and closer to their homes.

The Provincial Medical Director (PMD) for Mashonaland East province, Dr Paul Matsvimbo said the clinic will be equally staffed in terms of personnel while critical medicine will always be provided to the health facility.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care will be on the lookout for every development taking place at this clinic. We will make sure that the clinic has adequate health personnel and administration staff. Critical medicine will also be kept in stock,” Dr Matsvimbo said.

Chikomba RDC chairperson Israel Dhikinya thanked the Government for availing devolution funds, saying such funding has helped the local authority to accelerate development in the province’s largest district by area.

He said: “I would like to commend Government and President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa for availing devolution funds to Chikomba and other districts throughout the country. The devolution funds have enabled us to expedite developmental projects that leave lasting impressions in people’s lives. We have not been carrying out these projects in isolation as members of the community played their part. We have more projects that will be commissioned in the near future while others are already being planned.”
