MARONDERA– The construction of a new state of the art medical care centre is currently underway in Marondera town, with its completion set for the first quarter of this year.
Funded by ZESA Pension Fund, the facility which is earmarked to open its doors to members of the public soon, is at 95 percent completion.
The medical centre will bridge the gap in healthcare service delivery, ensuring local residents have access to top-notch medical care in the provincial capital, the surrounding communities and in cases of emergencies.
A few days ago, the secretary for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Tavabarira Kutamahufa toured the construction to appreciate progress that has been made to date.
He appreciated the stage the contractor has reached and was satisfied with the works being carried out at the construction site, before urging the facility owners to consider green energy in their operations.
Kutamahufa said: “This is a welcome and commendable development for our province as it will go a long way in transforming the livelihoods of the people through quality health service delivery system. As a province, we will always welcome more investors who have the development of communities at heart.”
Since the commencement of the health facility, employment opportunities have been created while more jobs are expected to be created once the facility officially commences its operations later this year.
Addressing members of the media on the sidelines of the tour, construction supervisor Collen Mangwiro appreciated the support rendered by the Government during the facility’s construction phase.
“As you have seen, we are progressing well in terms of construction. We appreciate the assistance that we have been getting from the provincial leaders. They assisted us to overcome several challenges during the initial stages of this project.
“Development in Mashonaland East is now easier, and once again, it’s all thanks to the continuous support from local leaders and the Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, who is always checking on our progress and address our raised concerns,” Mangwiro said.
The Medical Care Centre will include various wards, a pharmacy, dental and surgical sections, treatment and observation rooms, and specialized maternity and theatre facilities.
At the time of the tour, the project had created 250 jobs – both skilled and casual, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
