Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested a Manyame Rural District councilor for allegedly fraudulently subdividing and selling the late former Mines and Mining Development Minister, Amos Midzi’s estate land.
“The fraud was discovered by a co-executor of the estate of the late Midzi, who reported the matter to ZACC, leading to Chipunza’s arrest. The accused is set to appear in court on 19 June 2024,” ZACC said in a post on its X handle on Tuesday.
“Allegations are that in December 2022, Patson Chipunza, the ZANU (PF) councilor in the Manyame Rural District Council (MRDC) fraudulently subdivided Subdivision 1 of Earling Farm in Beatrice and engaged an agent to advertise the subdivided land for sale.”
ZACC said the complainant, Phillip Chapfunga discovered the fraud when he saw the advert and approached the agent who referred him to Chipunza, who pretended as a village head and owner of the land.
ZACC said Chapfunga then purchased 63ha for US$29 000 and made additional investment of US$41 000 in infrastructure on the farm.
