Harare, (New Ziana) – Two Harare women have been convicted by the Beitbridge Magistrates Court for possession of unregistered medicine in violation of the Medicines and Allied Substance Control Act.

Tamara Mutote and Lilian Ngwarati, both from Harare, were arrested in July by police following a tip off.

They were found in illegal possession of bronclear couph syrup valued at over ZWD88 000.

The duo had 1 200 bottles of the drug, which health experts believe is being widely used by drug addicts.

The court found both women guilty, and ordered them to pay a fine of USD200 each, or alternatively five months in jail.

They were also sentenced to 19 months in prison, four of which were suspended for three years. The remaining 15 months of the sentence were converted to 425 hours of community service.
