Beitbridge (New Ziana)- The Beitbridge Town Council has received 1 000 litres of Interox ST 50 disinfectants from a local company, Agro Fossils to assist in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

Beitbridge deputy mayor Munyaradzi Chitsinge while receiving the consignment, expressed gratitude to Agro Fosils and said it would go a long way in the fight against the novel virus and would be distributed to service providers in the border town.

“We are truly grateful of this donation which comes in handy in these dire times of Covid 19,” he said.

“We are all aware that the border town is the most exposed since it received more than 10 000 thousand people just before the lock down. Efforts to ensure a fair distribution of this donation to all public service providers in the town will be made,” he added.

Chitsinde said the border town was on high alert because of its proximity to South Africa which has recorded more than 1 000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The dilution ratio for the disinfectants is 1 litre to 100 litres of water, with a 16 litre knapsack sprays 1 000 square meters.

Apart from Beitbridge, Agro Fosils has also handed over the disinfectants to the cities of Bulawayo, Harare, Gweru and Mutare.

Coronavirus has killed over 95 000 people so far worldwide while 1.6 million having tested positive, with figures continuing to rise.

In response to the pandemic, the government declared a 21-day national lock down, which began on Monday last week.

Generally Zimbabweans are observing the lock down except for a few in some high density suburbs who are going about their businesses as usual and sometimes engaging in running battles with law enforcement agencies.

Also the search for basic commodities, particularly the staple maize meal, is resulting in people converging at some distribution centres and in the process disregarding the social distancing regulations.
