Gweru (New Ziana) –First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa on Thursday graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management and was among the 6 479 graduands capped by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the 25th Midlands State University (MSU) graduation ceremony.
MSU Vice Chancellor Prof Ngoni Muzvidziwa said the First Lady had for the past five years been an exemplary DPhil student from proposal presentation to oral defence of her thesis.
“We recognise her exceptional work ethic, resilience and dedication to her studies. Above all, her humble deference to her supervisors and intellectual curiosity have been instructive to all of us,” Prof Muzvidziwa said.
Prof Muzvidziwa said of the 6 479 graduands, 53 percent were female and 47 percent male, of which a total of 1 991 representing 30 percent were postgraduate students. A total of 10 graduated with Doctorate degrees, 5 with Master of Philosophy degree and 200 with postgraduate diplomas and certificates.
Prof Muzvidziwa said 18 graduands consisting of the first cohort from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences had graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
He said the MSU has leveraged the transformative power of higher education through excellence in teaching, research, innovation, community engagement and entrepreneurship yielding ground breaking results in the process. Prof Muzvidziwa said the university had also engaged robust efforts to impact on communities through community engagement and service.
“With the support of our stakeholders, we are making significant strides in industrialization by commercializing our innovations and promoting entrepreneurial ventures within our surrounding communities,” he said.
