Harare, (New Ziana) -Former Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Reuben Marumahoko was on Monday arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on allegations of abusing farming inputs acquired from the State.
Marumahoko was expected to appear before the court in Chinhoyi on Tuesday.
In a statement, ZACC said Marumahoko allegedly applied for the inputs under the Agricultural and rural Development Authority (ARDA) commercial farmers’ joint venture program after convincing authorities that he had the capacity to plant 200 hectares of maize on irrigated land. As a result of the alleged misrepresentation, ZACC said Marumahoko was given 2.5 metric tons of maize seed, 1 300 bags of Compound D fertiliser and an undisclosed quantities of chemicals.
After receiving the inputs, Marumahoko however, did not plant the agreed hectrage, instead only planting 46 hectares of maize crop before disposing the remaining inputs, resulting in ARDA suffering prejudice of US$37 950.
Meanwhile, Marumahoko’s wife, Andy Maririmba, also appeared before the same court on Saturday following her arrest on similar allegations.
