SHURUGWI – Four people died on the spot when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road recently.

Police have attributed the fatal accident, where four others were injured to possible human error as the driver was speeding.

On May 6, at around 6pm, Trymore Mapolisa (47) was driving a Toyota Wish towards Shurugwi with seven passengers.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said on reaching the 43km peg, Mapolisa lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road to the left and hit a tree along the road.

Four people who were in the vehicle died on the spot, while the other four were injured.

Police attended the scene and investigations are ongoing.

The four bodies were taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary while the injured were referred to the same hospital for treatment. The conditions of the injured could not be readily established.

Insp. Mahoko said the names of the now deceased will be released once their next of kin are informed.
The police spokesperson urged motorists to avoid speeding while driving to avoid loss of life and property.
