Harare, October 14, 2019 (New Ziana)-The price of fuel remains unchanged this week, the first it has happened in weeks much to the relief of consumers, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) said on Monday.

Prices of fuel have, from August this year, been reviewed on a weekly basis, a move that consumers have questioned, arguing they not only kept the nation in limbo but were also inflationary.

The commodity has largely remained scarce, despite the weekly revision of prices, which was expected would improve product availability.

In a statement, Zera said fuel prices remained unchanged at $14.97 per litre of petrol and $15.64 for diesel.

“Accordingly, prices have therefore not changed for both diesel and blend. Operators may however sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages,” said Zera.

While the regulator encourages fuel companies to sell at below the set prices depending on their trading advantages, the operators hardly do that. Instead, many actually charge above the set thresholds.
