MARONDERA- The Municipality of Marondera is calling on liquor outlets operators in the provincial capital to formalise the operations through acquiring operating licences from the relevant authorities.
The council’s public relations officer Kudakwashe Tapfumaneyi made the call in a recent interview with Chaminuka News.
Currently, there are 65 beer outlets that are operating legally in Marondera urban.
Of these licence holders, 34 are sports bars, 21 are bottle stores, six are night clubs with the other four being special restaurants.
“In Marondera, we have more than 60 beer outlets that are operating legally in town and in the residential areas. Those operating legally are holders of licences. In the same vein, we urge proprietors of beer outlets whose papers not in order to do the right thing and get licences to avoid a brush with the law.
“Council continues to monitor its jurisdiction to identify proprietors who may be operating without any liquor licenses as it does with all other forms of relevant licensing for other types of business enterprises,” Tapfumaneyi said.
He also urged members of the business community whose licences will expire at the end of this month to renew them.
“Council would like to notify the business community that businesses with licences expiring on the 30th of June 2024 are advised to pay for their July to December 2024 license fees before the 1st of July. Proprietors are being encouraged to renew their licenses before they expire to avoid paying penalty fees.
“The Municipality of Marondera would like to remind its valued business community that it a legal requirement that all businesses operating within the jurisdiction of the local authority operate with a valid operating licence according to the Shop Licenses Act (Chapter 14:17),” the council’s public relations officer stated.
