Harare, (New Ziana) – The government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, on Thursday directed a private real estate developer to cease all operations on a piece of state land between Murewa and Shamva roads which the company had been parceling out as residential stands.
In a statement, the Ministry branded the operations by Pullhil Enterprises and its affiliates on State land known as Lot 2 of Stuhm as illegal, and warned the public against being fleeced.
It said the land belonged to the state, and government had not authorised the company to develop it, let alone parcel it out. The company, and its affiliates, was developing roads and other infrastructure on the land, and subdividing it into residential stands.
“The public is hereby informed that the land in question is urban State land under the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works,” the Ministry said.
“Only the Minister, on behalf of the President, has the legal authority to subdivide, lease or sell this type of state-owned land, as per Section 43 of the Regional Town and Country Planning Act. Buyers risk losing their hard-earned money and even face prosecution for the illegal occupation of urban State land.” The Ministry said law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholders have been alerted and instructed to take appropriate action within their respective mandates to address the matter.
