Harare, (New Ziana) -The government has commended the company contracted to rehabilitate the Old Mazowe Road that leads to the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, Bitumen World, for the sterling work that it is carrying out.

Speaking at the official opening to traffic of the completed 7-kilometre stretch of the road on Tuesday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, who was represented by his deputy, Joshua Sacco, said the road is of great importance for the country as it leads to the new smart city to be built in Mt Hampden, connecting onwards to farmers and other stakeholders.

“Under the New Dispensation, there is less talk and more work. I think you can see just after the elections last year a lot of work was promised by His Excellency, the President Dr ED Mnangagwa saying the country is built by its people,” he said.

“And here we are today witnessing a truly Zimbabwean contractor, world-class standards, very good workmanship, under difficult circumstances and with a difficult timeline. I think we need to give our contractor a round of applause.”

Mhona said the quality of workmanship the contractor displayed is exceptional, adding that such partnerships with the government will continue into the future.

“As we expand our road networks, as we work on connectivity across the country, for us this is the beginning following the vision of His Excellency the President that we can build our own country,” he said.

He said for such sterling work, the government appreciates the contractor as well as the team from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for working round the clock, supervising the project, pushing for funding, getting the designs in order and ultimately working as a team with the contractor to achieve the good work being seen.

Officials from the Harare Metropolitan province, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces attended the event.
