Harare, (New Ziana) – Cabinet on Tuesday directed the expeditious implementation of the Lake Tugwi-Mukosi Combination Master Plan as it steps up efforts to ensure sustainable development and food security.

Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Dr Anxious Masuka will lead the speedy and efficient implementation of the Master Plan.

In a media briefing after the Cabinet meeting, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said the move would enable the project to gain momentum since several issues relate to land, water, fisheries and related developments.

The Lake Tugwi-Mukosi Combination Master Plan was developed under the guidance of Vice President Constatino Chiwenga, who chairs the Cabinet Committee on Food Security and Nutrition. The plan aims to harness the lake’s resources to attract investment and promote sustainable development in the region.

“Following the development of the Lake Tugwi-Mukosi Combination Master Plan by the Honourable Vice President, General (Rtd) Dr C.G.D.N. Chiwenga in his capacity as Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Food Security and Nutrition, and in view of the growing interest from a number of investors to commence major economic activities and investments around the lake, Cabinet directed that the implementation of the afore-mentioned Master Plan be expedited under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development in his capacity as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Food Security and Nutrition, in order for the project to gain the necessary traction. This is also because most issues relate to land, water, fisheries and related developments,” said Muswere.

The swift action on this plan underscores the government’s commitment to leverage the natural resources of Lake Tugwi-Mukosi for sustainable development, ultimately contributing to the nation’s food security and economic resilience.
