The event, which will be co-hosted by the Guruve Rural District Council (GRDC), will also feature Zimbabwe Chamber of SMEs, the Indigenous Advisory Practitioners Association of Zimbabwe (IAPAZ) and the county’s largest microfinance institution, MoneyMart Finance.

The initiative to spread out to rural areas builds on the success of popular meetings, referred to as breakfasts held in Harare which aim to support SMEs by promoting networking, collaboration, and innovation.

Guruve RDC acting chief executive, Munyengetero Maposa expressed enthusiasm for the event and said plans are afoot for it to become a monthly occurrence.

“This is our first business breakfast, and we’re thrilled with the support from various stakeholders in the SME development ecosystem.

“Our goal is to connect our SMEs with suppliers, bankers, micro-lenders, policymakers, and development partners, fostering a culture of collaboration. We will also showcase investment opportunities available in the district,” he said.

Maposa stressed the importance of promoting Domestic Direct Investment (DDI) alongside Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to strengthen the local economy.

IAPAZ president, Nyasha Gonese commended the growing interest in networking breakfasts from other rural district councils.

“We are excited by the response. More than 13 RDCs have reached out to us to co-host similar platforms.

“I extend my gratitude to the Guruve District Council, led by chairperson Councillor Mandaza, and the ZCSMEs Apex and provincial leadership for their commitment to this initiative,” he said.

Liberty Chinembiri, head of marketing at MoneyMart Finance, emphasized the importance of tailored financial support for the SME sector.

“Financial institutions must customize their products to meet the unique needs of this market, which is now a key driver of Zimbabwe’s economy.

“Preparing SMEs for competitiveness is crucial, especially with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) soon becoming fully operational,” she said.

Among guests at the event will be Dr Kudzanai Vere, a renowned entrepreneur and business coach with over 20 years of experience having trained more than 5 00 entrepreneurs across Africa.
