Harare (New Ziana) – Guruve, once a quiet district in Mashonaland Central, is rapidly transforming into a prime destination for both commercial and residential investment.

The surge in demand for stands is primarily driven by increased mining activity, with Eureka Mine—one of Zimbabwe’s largest gold mining operations—at the center of this boom.

This influx of workers and businesses is creating a vibrant economy in the area, as opportunities abound in the growing town. Major players in the retail sector are taking notice of Guruve’s growth potential.

OK Zimbabwe, one of the country’s largest supermarket chains, has recently acquired commercial land in the area, signaling strong confidence in the district’s economic future.

This move is just the beginning, hinting at a wave of investment that promises to reshape Guruve’s commercial landscape. The demand for residential stands is also increasing, largely driven by those involved in mining and agriculture—workers, suppliers, and service providers eager to be closer to their places of employment. Guruve’s strategic location, just a 1.5-hour drive from Harare and situated along the newly upgraded Harare-Kanyemba Highway, enhances its attractiveness.

This highway is expected to become a crucial trade route, particularly with the upcoming completion of the Kanyemba Bridge, which will significantly shorten travel distances to Johannesburg and the DRC. Local investment firm Alinial Chartered Accountants is further contributing to Guruve’s transformation with plans for state-of-the-art boarding primary and secondary schools.

This initiative aims to provide quality education tailored to the needs of both local residents and the influx of new residents attracted by the district’s economic opportunities. Acting CEO for Guruve Rural District Council (RDC), Mr. Munyengetero Maposa, emphasized the council’s commitment to attracting and retaining investment.

“Guruve is rapidly emerging as a significant player in Zimbabwe’s economic landscape. The influx of investors across sectors, particularly in mining and retail, is a testament to our district’s growth potential.

We are not just welcoming investors, we are actively creating a conducive environment for their success. “From modernizing infrastructure to streamlining investment processes, Guruve RDC is fully committed to ensuring that investors have the support and resources they need to thrive here.

Our goal is to build long-term partnerships that will transform Guruve into a regional economic hub,” he said. Guruve’s proximity to oil and gas exploration efforts by Invictus Energy in the neighboring Muzarabani District further enhances its appeal to investors.

The Harare-Kanyemba Highway will serve as a vital link, boosting the district’s role as a strategic hub for trade, agriculture, mining, and tourism—especially as it acts as a gateway to Zambia and the DRC.

To capitalize on these opportunities, Guruve RDC has launched an aggressive marketing campaign aimed at attracting both local and international investors. A key initiative in this campaign is the district’s inaugural SMEs breakfast, scheduled for November 1, 2024 which will be co-hosted by the Indigenous Advisory Practitioners Association of Zimbabwe (IAPAZ) and the Zimbabwe Chamber of SMEs.

This event will showcase investment opportunities and foster partnerships with local entrepreneurs. IAPAZ president, Nyasha Gonese, praised the leadership of Guruve RDC, noting:

“Out of more than 50 local authorities we reached out to, Guruve RDC stood out by being the first to respond. Their swift action reflects not only proactive leadership but also a deep commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment. Such decisive action sets Guruve apart as a top destination for investment.”

As Guruve continues to evolve, its strategic location, booming mining activities, and forward-thinking governance positions it as one of Zimbabwe’s most attractive investment destinations. Investors are increasingly looking to Guruve as a district on the rise, with opportunities that promise both economic growth and community development.

The future looks bright for this burgeoning district, poised to become a key player in Zimbabwe’s economic landscape.
