Hwange-based artist Makanika Sibanda and his band, Banyayi, have made a striking visual debut with the release of their music video for “Kuda Zunhu,” a compelling anthem promoting equality between girls and boys.
The song is already making waves in the entertainment scene, quickly becoming the talk of the town. Its vibrant energy, combined with the band’s dynamic performance, has captivated audiences across all social media platforms.
In an interview, Makanika thanked his fans for their overwhelming support, which he sees as a testament to their enduring love.
“This is my first music video, and I’ve received an outpouring of messages in my WhatsApp inbox, along with numerous comments on Facebook and YouTube. This shows that people are rallying behind me, although I faced a challenge of securing funding to produce this video,” he shared.
Makanika Sibanda’s soulful voice, paired with the band’s lively performance and catchy lyrics, has caught the attention of prominent radio stations, driving an increase in views on YouTube.
“My message in the music is to encourage parents to allow their children to go to school. Girls can often excel academically, sometimes even outperforming boys. We need to move away from traditional norms in our homes and ensure that all children have equal access to education,” he emphasized.
The music video for “Kuda Zunhu” addresses critical social issues, including gender inequality and early child marriage in rural communities, all brought to life through striking visuals.
Sibanda’s powerful message champions the potential of the girl child, set against a rural backdrop that highlights the challenges faced by many young girls. His uplifting lyrics inspire hope and empowerment, encouraging a shift in perception.
The “Wakabenikilwa Woga” hitmaker gives a voice to the voiceless, stressing that with opportunity and support, girls can achieve greatness, countering the negative portrayals often seen in some parts of African rural communities.
