Harare (New Ziana) – A 40-year-old man from Mazibeka Village in the Midlands Province, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for culpable homicide following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a 47-year-old man.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority on their X handle, the death resulted from a violent altercation which took place on December 25, 2022. On that fateful day Blessing Maphosa, the convict, who had been drinking, became aggressive to his girlfriend when he visited her.

In a fit of rage, he assaulted her, forcing the girlfriend to flee to a neighbor’s home for safety. Maphosa pursued her, and continued the assault. In the melee, the deceased intervened, and tried to persuade him to stop the attack.

But, instead, Maphosa turned on the man, and struck him multiple times on the head with a log, causing him to collapse and bleed profusely from injuries. He later succumbed to the injuries in hospital.

The High Court, sitting in Gokwe, sentenced Maphosa to ten years in jail, but suspended two years.
