    Mhondoro man gets 20 years for raping granny (78)

    Harare, (New Ziana) – A 23-year-old man from Mhondoro, Mashonaland West province, has been jailed to an effective 20 years for raping a 78-year-old woman.

    In a post on X (formerly Twitter) the National Prosecuting Authority (NPAZ) said Bright Ajusi of Chief Nyamweda area in Mhondoro attacked the elderly woman on June 3 this year.

    Nyamweda stormed his elderly victim’s house while she was sleeping in the early hours of June 3 this year.

    He drew a knife and ordered her to follow his orders after which he raped her five times.

    The complainant informed her neighbour who helped her make a police report, leading to Ajusa’s arrest.

    Meanwhile the Bindura Magistrates’ Court also sentenced a 33-year-old man to 20 years in prison for the rape of a six-year-old girl.

    The man from Mazowe, Mashonaland Central provnce, attacked the girl last Friday after forcibly taking her away from where she was playing with friends. After the rape, the man gave the child a dollar to buy her silence before fleeing the scene.

    The matter came to light when a passer-by heard the complainant crying in the bush. The girl confided in the passer-by and she was taken to her mother, who made a police report leading to the man’s arrest.
