MODERNISATION is a key contributory factor towards the quality of education in the country.

Addressing parents and community members during the commissioning of a classroom block at LDV Primary School in Shamva recently, the Acting Provincial Education Director, Dr Temba Mangwiro, said there was need for schools to modernise in order to offer quality education at their schools.

“Nguva ino yatave kurarama yavekuda kuti zvikoro zvedu zvivandudzwe zvienderane nenguva yatave kuitira kuti vana vedu vanodzidziswa ipapo vabudewo nedzidzo dzakanaka,” he said.

Dr Mangwiro said infrastructural development, especially on the welfare of teachers contributed immensely to the pass rate of a school.

“Kana mateacher akawana pekugara pakanaka, vanokwanisa kudzidzisa vana vedu zvakanakawo, asi kana zvikoro zvedu zvisina pekuti vadzidzisi vedu vagare pakanaka zvinodzorera shure nekuti vadzidzsi havagare. Vanenge vachiuya vachienda, izvo zvinokanganisa vana vedu mukudzidza kwavo,” he said.

Dr Mangwiro commended the Government on its efforts to build schools in the rural areas as it is helping in the reduction of school drop outs and early child marriages in the province.

“We thank the Government for its efforts in building more schools in the rural areas and the country at large as it is helping in the reduction of school drop outs, as many children used to drop out of school due to the long distances they had to walk to the nearest school, hence most of them, especially girls opted to get married or to look for manual work,” he said.

LDV Primary School also received benches from Canterbury Private Limited company worth US$3 000 for the classroom block which was commissioned.

Spokesperson for Canterbury, Samuel Rusike, said as a company, they were eager to help in community developments in the country.

“We are always pleased to help in the community developments of the country as a way of giving back to the community that we are doing our work in,” he said.

Rusike said the welfare of the girl child was important as they were the ones that suffered the most effects of child marriages than the boy child, hence they should be shown love and be taught on the importance of education first before marriage.”

“The girl child is the one that suffers the most as they are the ones that carry the burdens of motherhood if they are into early marriages. This is why we are trying to help the girl child through empowering them with education so that they realise that marriage is not the solution to end poverty.

LDV Primary School has an enrolment of more than 600 pupils and recently they were registered as an examination centre.
