Harare, (New Ziana) – A series of parliamentary pre-budget consultations for the 2025 fiscal year, which were set to begin on Sunday to gather the views of the public, have been postponed to a later date, Parliament said on Friday.
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance, and Investment Promotion had scheduled the hearing on the forthcoming budget from September 29 to October 4th. The national budget will be presented in November.
Parliament did not, however, give reasons for the postponement of the countrywide hearings. “Parliament of Zimbabwe wishes to advise members of the public, stakeholders and the media fraternity that the 2025 Budget Consultations which were pencilled for 29th-4th October 2024 have been postponed to a later date to be advised.
Parliament of Zimbabwe assures the nation that sufficient time will be given for members of the public to participate in this cardinal exercise, once the new dates and venues are finalised,” Parliament said in a statement.
The public hearings, which seek to strengthen Parliament’s and citizens’ role in the formulation of the national budget, are conducted every year in fulfillment of the requirements of the Public Finance Management Act.
After the public consultations, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube is then expected to incorporate some of the suggestions in the national budget.
