THE Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme is a stepping stone towards the province’s and the country’s food security status following last agricultural season’s El Nino-induced drought.

Addressing delegates during the provincial launch of the Pfumvudza farming programme, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central Province, Christopher Magomo, commended the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme as a stepping stone towards food security in the province and the country.

“The Pfumvudza programme is a crucial step in harnessing our agricultural potential. When implemented with diligence and care, it has the power to transform our agricultural landscape enabling households to achieve self-sufficiency and even contribute surplus produce to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB),” he said.

Magomo urged farmers to adopt Pfumvudza/Intwasa as it would go a long way in producing better yields as it had already proved did during the drought.

“Those who adhered to the principles of Pfumvundza were able to harvest something from their efforts. This clearly demonstrated the resilience and ingenuity of our farming community,” he said.

“Together we will ensure that our efforts bear fruit and contribute to the well-being of our communities in the district and the province at large,” he said.

People who have benefited from the Pfumvudza/Intwasa input scheme were grateful to the Government and optimistic of better yields during the 2024/2025 agricultural season.

“Nhasi tawana mbeu ne fertiliser. Tinofara chose nezvataitirwa, uye tinovimba kuti gore rino tichave negoho rakawanda,” said Prisca Chigiya from Muzarabani.

The Agritex supervisor for Muzarabani, Hanzi Dube, urged the people to stop selling the inputs they received.

“Musatengesa mbeu ne ma fertiliser atakakupai, rimai muwane goho rakawanda muzokwanisa kuriritira mhuri dzenyu,” he said.

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme is a Government initiative, which is meant to improve food security at household level and help eradicate poverty through farming.

The national Pfumvudza/Intwasa scheme for the new farming season, was launched recently by the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa.
