Harare (New Ziana) – Police have said four firearms have been recovered from suspects linked to a series of armed robberies that occurred in Harare on October 9th and 10th.
The recovered weapons include a 9mm P38 Walther Pistol, an Airgun KWC Super Cat, a Retay MOD 92 P.A.K, and a retay 84 FS P.A.K.
The firearms were recovered following the arrest of six suspects, Tapiwa Matope (23), Wonder Matope (42), Talkmore Masanga(45), Tafadzwa Kupeta (22), Steven Mahachi (51)and Rashid Adam Chipanga(30). The suspects were apprehended in connection with four armed robbery cases that took place in Dzivarasekwa, Manyame Park, Chitungwiza and Hopley Zone 6 over the two-day period.
Three of the suspects, Kupeta, Mahachi and Chipanga were arrested on October 22, leading to the recovery of firearms from a house in Damafalls Phase 2. The other three suspects were arrested between October 11 and 21st, after Matope was found in possession of a cell phone stolen during one of the Dzivarasekwa robberies.
Investigations revealed the firearms were stolen from a complainant at the Copa-Cabana bus terminus in Harare. The suspects had allegedly posed as police officers and arrested the man before taking the weapons. The robberies netted the suspects a total of US$6 550 in cash and several cell phones.
