Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday called on the ruling Zanu PF Central Committee to provide constructive and proactive perspectives on better serving the people of Zimbabwe, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the party structures, particularly at the grassroots level.

Addressing the 123rd Session of the Central Committee, President Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s first secretary, called on the leadership to maintain their dedication and focus on serving the people of Zimbabwe.

“Cells and villages remain the critical cogs of our Party and that is where the focus of our restructuring program should be. ZANU-PF cannot afford to be preoccupied with filling executive positions with no base,” he said. “As a united, peaceful, visionary, resilient and hardworking people, we have every reason to be proud.

Let us continue to believe in ourselves and to be confident in what we can do.” He stressed the need to bring more young people into the party structures, describing them as the future leaders of the country. President Mnangagwa called for the equal strengthening of the Women’s League and War Veterans’ Leagues.

He highlighted several notable achievements of the government over the past quarter, including the stabilization of the macroeconomic environment anchored on the recently introduced domestic gold-based ZiG currency.

President Mnangagwa also pointed to progress made on key infrastructure projects such as the Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi Dams, as well as the commencement of production at the Dinson Manhize Iron and Steel Mine near Mvuma in the Midlands province.

“These developments point to the undeniable fact that ZANU-PF is delivering. “We are walking the talk and building modern and resilient infrastructure to anchor sustainable socio-economic growth and prosperity,” he said He lauded the country’s farmers for their hard work and unity of purpose, which has resulted in exceeding national planting targets.

“Preparations for the 2024/2025 summer cropping season are progressing well and farmers are urged to acquire inputs in a timely manner for the upcoming season. Party structures should work closely with government Ministries, departments and agencies to mobilize farmers across the country in this regard,” he said.

President Mnangagwa highlighted the progress of the Drought Mitigation Program, stating that relief will be provided to all deserving families in both urban and rural areas and no one will die of hunger.

He also touched on Zimbabwe’s efforts to deepen ties with international partners, mentioning the country’s participation in the recently held Korea-Africa Summit and the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia.

On potential threats to the country’s stability, President Mnangagwa warned against rogue elements within the country who are bent on peddling falsehoods and instigating acts of civil disorder, especially around regional and global events like the forthcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit of Heads of States and Governments to be held in Harare.
