Harare (New Ziana) – In a move to address the escalating drug and substance abuse crisis in marginalized communities, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has announced the formation of an inclusive inter-ministerial committee tasked with spearheading the fight against the scourge.
This collaborative effort brings together an inter-ministerial committee that will work closely with religious groups, schools, law enforcement agencies, traditional leaders, and other community stakeholders to tackle the problem.
“An inter-ministerial committee was set up by the President and comprises myself, the Minister of Public Service, and the Minister of Youth. This committee is chaired by Hon. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri,” said Kazembe.
He emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated response, stating: “Drug and substance abuse is a multifaceted issue that requires a holistic approach. It is not just a law enforcement problem, it is a social, health, and community issue that demands the involvement of all sectors of society.”
The newly formed committee will work to reach every part of the country in the fight against drug abuse, leveraging the expertise and resources of various structures within the marginalized areas.
This collaborative initiative aims to tackle the drug abuse epidemic head-on, targeting vulnerable populations and empowering communities to take an active role in combating this pressing challenge.
