MARONDERA- Zanu PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Daniel Garwe recently commended people in the province for supporting Government programmes.

Garwe who is also the Minister of Local Government and Public Works said this when he addressed scores of people at a victory celebrations rally held at Muchinjike Shopping Centre in Ward 4, Murehwa North constituency.

He said: “We are no longer in election mode and we are here to celebrate our victory in last year’s elections. May we now put much of our focus on development programmes that are being introduced by the Government led by President Mnangagwa. All the programmes being introduced embrace the ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo’ mantra and no one will be left behind in our economic trajectory.

“Last month, you made us proud by attending the launch of the Youth Service Zimbabwe (YSZ) and the Zimbabwe Youth Empowerment Forum (ZYEF) at Nhakiwa Vocational Training Centre in Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe district in huge numbers. As a party, which cherish that kind of support.”

The YSZ and ZYEF meetings were officiated by President Mnangagwa and ran under the theme: “Empower the Youth, Secure the Future.”

Meanwhile, Garwe said the Government has put in place measures that will ensure that no one will starve in the face of the El-Nino-induced drought.

He said: “We did not receive favourable rains in the 2023-2024 summer cropping season due to the changing climatic conditions that affected the African region and other parts of the world.

“However, I would like to reiterate that no one will starve and the Government will ensure that. In schools, there are feeding programmes that are already underway. The elderly and people living with various forms of disabilities will also receive food aid. There is also the food-for-work programme that we are introducing in all corners of the country.”

In collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare embarked on school feeding programmes for children to remain in schools without being affected by food shortages.
