Harare(New Ziana)-Six Zimbabwean truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 in Zambia after crossing into that country through the Chirundu border post.
Addressing a joint press conference with Information and Broadcasting Services counterpart Dora Siliya on Friday, Zambian Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya said the 6 were among 14 new cases recorded in that country.
“Therefore today’s (Friday) report on the tests that were done in Lusaka out of the 161 tests conducted by our laboratories in the last 24 hours, we recorded 14 new cases. Out of these 14 new cases, 10 were truck drivers coming through Chirundu border post. Out of these, 4 were Zambians and 6 were Zimbabweans and 3 were detected through routine testing and 1 was a contact of a known case.
“So a total of 14 cases were reported within the last 24 hours,” he said.
Chilufya said cumulatively, Zambia had recorded 668 cases, 7 deaths, 152 recoveries and 509 active cases.
Zimbabwean Health and Child Care Environmental Health Services director Victor Nyamande acknowledged that some cases might have been missed as the country has not been testing truck drivers who passed through its borders for Covid-19.
To date, Zimbabwe has recorded 42 confirmed cases, 13 recoveries, 4 deaths and 25 active cases since the onset of the outbreak which started in China in December last year.
