The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said on September 29, the 47-year-old complainant released her cattle to graze in the morning but failed to locate one of her oxen when she went to the pastures to bring the livestock back home.
She spent six days looking for the ox but could not find it. On October 12 around 1pm, the complainant found her ox in Moyana’s kraal.
When she confronted Moyana, he admitted to stealing the ox from the grazing lands with the intention of selling it at Koala Park. The complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to Moyana’s arrest.
Separately the NPAZ said the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 26-year-old man from Jecheni Village to three years imprisonment for having sexual intercourse with a young person.
The court heard that sometime in July, the complainant’s mother left for Rupungwana to work part-time, leaving her children in the custody of her husband. The 13-year-old girl, who is a school dropout, went missing in August. Her father initially thought she was at church, but upon inquiry, he discovered that she was living with the accused person. When
the complainant’s mother returned home on September 8 and was informed about her daughter’s whereabouts, she reported the matter to the police.
The man will, however, serve an effective two years imprisonment after the court conditionally suspended one year of the sentence for five years.
The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court also sentenced Wisdom Jombo (36) of Chimambo Village, Chief Musikavanhu, Chipinge to four years imprisonment for attempted murder.
The NPAZ said on October 8, the complainant, Tawanda Matambo (42) got into a liquor store at Chimambo Business Centre, Chipinge around midnight and purchased some beer. Jombo followed Matambo when he went outside and asked him questions that he could not remember.
Matambo did not respond to Jombo’s barrage of questions, and this angered the latter who assaulted Matambo with clenched fists.
Jombo then produced an okapi knife and stabbed Matambo on the nose and twice on the back, stopping only when he was restrained by James Mbwandi who witnessed the attack and managed to take the knife away. Matambo sustained a cut on the nose, stomach and at the back.
Jombo will serve an effective three years in prison after the court conditionally suspended one year of the sentence for five years.
The NPAZ is on record encouraging members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
