MARONDERA– The Murehwa Rural District Council has been commended for channeling its devolution funds towards the acquisition of utility vehicles and motorbikes that will go a long way in helping the local authority improve on service delivery aspects.
The vehicles commissioned by Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe included four Nissan NP200, two Nissan Navaras, a refuse compactor, a back-hoe loader, a vibratory roller, a water bowser and 39 motorbikes.
Murehwa RDC chairperson Alderman Amos Gutu said besides acquiring utility vehicles and motorbikes, the council is implementing an array of developmental projects backed by devolution funds.
He said: “The projects span from education service delivery with classroom blocks, science laboratories and ancillary infrastructure under construction in wards 4, 5, 8, 16, 19, 25 and 28. Health service delivery has seen construction of clinics in wards 4, 12, 13 and 14.”
The RDC has also made provisions in its 2024 budget to construct new schools starting with classroom blocks, installation of solar powered boreholes, solar electrification, ablution facilities construction, staff houses and furniture acquisition in different wards.
“Water provision remains a major priority and we have plans to procure a water rig as well as drill, rehabilitate and maintain boreholes. We thank the Government for all the support that we have been getting,” added Gutu.
Addressing Murehwa villagers at the commissioning of the vehicles, Minister Garwe said their effective use will result in the council providing efficient service delivery in the district.
He said: “The procurement of these vehicles is as a result of the council’s fore-sight and vision to re-capitalize. It will help us to catalyze efforts towards our 2030 attainment of Vision 2030 and Agenda 2063 for Africa. Coming back at the national level, and in the wider developmental context, equipment re-capitalization is a key driver in the achievement of the National Development Strategy-1 (NDS-1).”
He said the deployment of the equipment will significantly improve service delivery by the council adding that the motorbikes will make it easy for councilors to execute their duties in their 30 administrative wards.
“Macheke Rural Service Centre is rapidly growing in terms of population and infrastructure. Therefore, the availability of the refuse compactor will result in effective solid waste removal.
“As we embark on this ambitious journey of promoting service delivery and economic development, let us draw inspiration from the fact that together we can achieve the extraordinary. With determination, innovation and shared commitment to a better future, let us work towards the success of our country Zimbabwe.”
