Harare, (New Ziana) – Visiting the scene of a rape that occurred 13 years ago led a 25-year-old woman to report her rapist uncle resulting in his imprisonment.

This is the second such case after a woman in Dombodema, Bulilima, in Matabeleland South caused her father to be jailed to 20 years last year for a rape which occurred eight years earlier.

The woman who conceived a daughter from the rape before running away to neighbouring Botswana reported her rape after being overcome by fear that her rapist father might turn on her daughter.

Meanwhile in this case, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the rape occurred in Gokwe between 2009 and 2011 when the woman was 12 years old and remained under wraps for 13 years having not bee reported when it happened.

Floods of emotions about the rape during a 2022 visit back to the Gokwe village where the attack occurred led to the woman to report her uncle resulting in him being jailed for 15 years by the Gokwe Regional Court.

The rapist uncle had his appeal against the conviction and sentence thrown out by the High Court in Bulawayo.

Separately in Harare, the local magistrates’ Court jailed an inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Prison to 15 years imprisonment for the rape of a fellow inmate.

The NPAZ said the 39-year-old man was convicted of aggravated indecent assault on a fellow inmate on last October 29 while the victim slept.

Evidence including semen, corroborated the victim’s testimony.

In a separate but similar case, the NPAZ said the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 45-year-old man from Zhombe to 15 years for the rape of a 16-year-old girl who was employed as a maid in the same area.

The State proved that on last January 6, the man grabbed the complainant’s waist from behind and gagged her mouth with a cloth, before raping her after which he casually walked away. The complainant informed her employer of her ordeal and a police report was made leading to the man’s arrest.
