MARONDERA– US$4 million is required to speed-up the construction of the Mutoko Government Complex and recently, Special Advisor to the President responsible for Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes Dr Joram Gumbo, who toured the project site, said efforts will be made to ensure that the project is completed.
During his tour, he was briefed on the progress made on the project to date.
Dr Gumbo said he would engage relevant Ministries involved in the project as well as the Treasury to ensure that construction of the building, which started in 2002, is accelerated.
Progress on the building that will house several Government departments has been stalled owing to several challenges, with financial constraints being the elephant in the room.
The two-storey complex will have 120 offices.
“I am aware that this project was stalled for over a decade due to numerous challenges, including financial constraints. I have also been informed that several critical components remain outstanding – that is roofing and structural covering, brickwork and finishing, electrical installations, civil works and other services that are specialised.
“For this project to be completed, an estimated US$3 970 902. 90 is required for that purpose and I will soon be engaging the relevant line Ministries involved, including Treasury, to ensure that the funds that are needed are availed to complete this project.
“By any measure, the completion of this complex will stand as a testament to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Second Republic’s dedication to uplift the livelihoods of all Zimbabweans from each and every corner of the country.”
Dr Gumbo emphasised that the Mutoko Government Complex remained a priority and needed the full attention and resources required to bring it to fruition.
He added that the complex will provide people with improved services by the Government as it will align their experience with that of other districts in the country.
The implementation of the Mutoko Government Complex project is directly aligned with Zimbabwe’s National Development Agenda-1 (NDS-1) which emphasises the urgency of comprehensive and transformative projects that propel the nations toward an upper-middle income society by 2030.
The integrated Government complex will serve as a one stop hub for essential public services, meeting the community’s needs in areas such as civil registration, health, education and more, all under one roof. The complex is one of the flagship projects implemented by Government and is keenly aligned to the devolution and decentralisation agenda that has its focus primarily on bringing Government and services to the people.
