Harare(New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is warning defaulting customers on the post-paid system that it will be disconnecting their power supplies.

“ZETDC would like to advise all defaulting customers who are on the post-paid system to settle their electricity bills without any further delay to avoid any inconvenience associated with power being disconnected,” it said in a statement.

The power utility said it had intensified revenue collection efforts in order to recover the $1.2 billion that is locked in defaulting consumers to enable it to enhance service delivery.

“In the interest of quality service provision, ZETDC is implementing its full complement of credit control measures to defaulters who did not make any effort to clear their debts, or engage the power utility for payments,” it said.

The exercise will primarily focus on industries which consume more power such as hotels, supermarkets, bakeries, shops and restaurants, mining, agriculture.

ZETDC commended those customers that paid their bills on time and encourage defaulters to follow suit, as the revenue was used to pay for power imports as well as servicing and maintaining equipment.

“The revenue being released realized from paying your bills is being utilized to pay for electricity imports, coal for local generation and buy spares for network maintenance, as well as other critical inputs for security of electricity supply,” it said.
