Harare,(New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Sunday registered three new Covid-19 cases to take its tally of confirmed cases to 282 as the rate of infection continues to spike on the back of imported cases, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
The latest new cases were returning citizens from South Africa and
South Sudan who were already in mandatory quarantine.
On Sunday, a total of 107 rapid screening and 153 PCR tests were
conducted on the day, taking the overall tally of tests since March
2020 to 52 985.
“To date the total number of confirmed cases is 282, recovered 34,
active cases 244 and four deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20
March, 2020,” the Health ministry said.
With returnees accounting for the spike in cases, the Health ministry
said “quarantining returning citizens and residents helps in the early
detection of Covid-19 cases and prevention of local transmission of
the disease.”
Zimbabwe is still under a Level 2 lockdown, introduced as part of
wider measures to contain the spread of the disease, which has killed
hundreds of thousands and infected millions others globally.
