Luanda, (New Ziana)- Speaker of the Zimbabwean Parliament Jacob Mudenda is in Luanda, Angola to attend the 55th Session of the Southern African Development Community – Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF).

The Parliament of Zimbabwe is among several Parliamentary multilateral organisations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Pan African Parliament (PAP), and the SADC-PF as part of Parliamentary diplomacy espoused within the engagement and re-engagement agenda.

Mudenda is accompanied by legislators Chief Chinhenzva Chigwajara (Chief Matsiwo of Mbire) Maybe Mbowa (Midlands Senator), Proportional MP Mercy Mugomo, Tendai Nyabani (Rushinga MP) and Karenyi Kore (Chikanga MP).

In a statement, Parliament said the Zimbabwean delegation, which arrived on Sunday, also dedicated the day to looking at all the documentation in preparation for the SADC-PF Assembly and related meetings.

“More critically the delegation will be looking at the SADC-PF Strategic Plan (2024 to 2028) in readiness for its discussion within the SADC-PF programme of Committee meetings.

Essentially, the document is expected to shape the future of the Regional Parliamentary bloc, especially within its Transformation Agenda into a fully-fledged SADC Regional Parliament.

Mudenda is expected to be in the Executive Panel that will interrogate the Strategic Plan on Tuesday.

Another key highlight of the forum session will be the official opening ceremony on Tuesday, which will be graced by Angolan Vice President, Her Excellency Eduardo Francisco da Costa.

The SADC PF is a regional inter-parliamentary body composed of Members of Parliament from Member State national parliaments, representing over 3 500 legislators in the SADC Region.

Established by the SADC Summit of September 8, 1997, the Forum consists of Presiding Officers and a maximum of five representatives elected by the National Parliament of each Member State.

The forum aims to provide a platform to support and improve regional integration through parliamentary involvement and promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.
