Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Friday recorded its 35th Covid-19 case, breaking a straight eight day run without the country having recorded any new infections, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.
Only one, out of a combined total of 1 224 tests (divided into 624 rapid screening and 600 PCR) conducted on the day tested positive for the Coronavirus.
“More details on the latest confirmed case to be given in tomorrow’s (Saturday) update,” the health ministry said.
The Ministry of Health said testing for Covid-19, which had been confined to public health institutions, had been extended to private facilities.
On May 8, at least 140 PCR tests had been done at a private facility.
To date, the country has carried out a total of 10 218 rapid screening and 8 741 PCR tests.
Four deaths and nine recoveries have been registered since the first case of the disease was recorded in Zimbabwe in late March.
The country is currently under a Level 2 lockdown aimed at curtailing spread of the disease and effective Monday this week, introduced mandatory wearing of masks in public in the interests of safeguarding public health.
