Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded its 36th Covid-19 case, a second straight day of registering new cases, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.
Only one out of the 852 PCR tests done on the day tested positive for the virus.
Additionally, 726 rapid screening tests were also conducted and all
were negative for Covid-19, the health ministry said in an update on
Sunday.
The country on Friday recorded one new case after having gone for
eight days without any new infections.
Providing further detail on Friday’s case, the health ministry said the
patient was a 50 year old woman who stays in Harare, who had no recent
history of travel or contact with an infected person.
“She was admitted at a private hospital on the 27th of April 2020 with
a history of vomiting, general body weakness and shortness of
breath…,” the ministry said.
After the Covid-19 diagnosis, she was transferred to Wilkins Hospital.
Details on the latest patient would be provided later, the health ministry said.
To date, Zimbabwe has recorded four corona virus related deaths and
nine recoveries since the first case of the disease was recorded in
the country in late March.
The country is currently under a Level 2 lockdown aimed at curtailing
spread of the disease and effective Monday last week, introduced
mandatory wearing of masks in public in the interests of protecting
public health.
A fine of up to ZWL$500 can be imposed for those caught in public
without a mask.
