Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe has recorded four more Covid-19 recoveries, taking to nine, the tally of people who have healed since the first case was recorded in late March, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said on Friday.

The country has not registered a new COVID-19 case in 8 consecutive days, and remains at 34 confirmed cases and 4 deaths.

“The latest recoveries include four cases from Harare. These were confirmed through two consecutive PCR negative tests from samples
taken at least 24 hours apart in line with the World Health Organisation guidelines,” the Ministry said.

Harare is leading the provincial tally in terms of infections with thirteen cases, closely followed by Bulawayo at twelve, Mashonaland East with five, Mashonaland West with three and Matabeleland North with one.

Mashonaland East has recorded four recoveries and Matabeleland North one.

On May 7, a total of 1 350 rapid tests and 333 PCR tests were conducted targeting public sector workers and all were negative for Covid-19, the Ministry said.

The figures take the overall total of rapid screening and PCR tests conducted to date to 9 594 and 8 141 respectively.

Zimbabwe is currently under a lockdown aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus and has since made it mandatory for citizens to wear masks in the interest of safeguarding public health.
